"The Ocean Between" by Lynda Coker

Reviewed by Criston M.

A short read, The Ocean Between can be best described as West Side Story meets Lawrence of Arabia.

Victoria is a very wealthy business woman. She loves her professional work and her volunteer work at the orphanage, even intending to adopt three children. Unbeknown to her, Victoria's father arranges her meeting with Prince Rashid. He is dying of cancer and wishes to protect the family business and assets by arranging for Victoria to marry the Prince.

Despite the business arrangement, Rashid is adamant to have Victoria as more than just a wife on paper.
Victoria, however, does everything in her power to avoid Rashid. She has been very happy with her life but somehow Rashid's dark eyes makes her question what she wants. She fights every ounce of emotion she feels for Rashid, which only makes Rashid more determined to make her his.

The Ocean Between packs a romantic punch from beginning to end, enticing and engaging the reader into a world of Arab fantasy. An enjoyable read in any language or land, love always prevails. The story burns with held back passion and the character leave you wanting a sequel, if only to find out how Victoria has fared.

Such a short book though...always challenging whether to decide to spend the money for a short stand alone story.

Regarding Pricilla's comment about spending money on a short story, I agree with her thoughts.
But if you click the link that goes to the Amazon page for this book, amazon says the book is 240 pages, way over double the "100-page read" the reviewer describes. Why the difference?

That's an interesting observation, Sheila. Maybe the reviewer found only 100 pages were worth reading.

The description of "West Side Story meets Lawrence of Arabia" seems like a very strange combination indeed. What in the world in that line of brown bits on the cover? I can't decide if it looks like a charm bracelet or a bunch of dead bees.

LOL Jen! I have no idea what the brown thing on the cover is either, but it does look like dead bugs. Maybe it is, since it's in the desert. :o)

Hmm, I see that discrepancy too...I've changed the description to just a "short read" since that's how the reviewer described it.

Thank you Christon and Vera for taking the time to review and post the review for my book THE OCEAN BETWEEN.

LOL, and to address the question of what's on the cover, it is indeed a charm bracelet, which holds significance for Prince Rashid.

Lynda - Oh, I so love it when authors post comments on their reviews. Thanks for clearing up the mystery on the charm bracelet.

Good luck on your book sales!

Hmmmm. It sounds like it could be interesting - romance in other cultures is always enlightening. It seems strange to me that a successful business woman ends up with her father secretly arranging a marriage for her and I can understand why she'd want to fight the passion...

This sounds like an interesting story. So many books, so little time!

This would give my reading group an opportunity to learn about Middle Eastern culture.
