Blog Tour and Giveaway: "The Possibility of Everything" by Hope Edelman

Join Hope Edelman, author of the personal memoir, The Possibility of Everything (Ballantine Books), as she virtually tours the blogosphere in December on her first virtual book tour with Pump Up Your Book Promotion!

Reviewed by Claudia R.

September, 2000, Topanga Canyon, CA, just another hot, hazy, humid evening unfolds for author Hope Edelman.

Or is it?

When Maya, Hope's three year-old daughter introduces her new (imaginary) friend Dodo to the family, Hope has no idea just how upside down and inside out her world is about to become. At first, a mere nuisance, Dodo becomes the scapegoat for all of Maya's 'bad' behavior, which eventually escalates, resulting in unexplainable outbursts, fits of uncontrollable and debilitating rage, fear of being touched by others, puzzling night terrors and a new language, shared only with Dodo. Friends, Maya's pediatrician, and even Hope's friend, Sarah, a NYC therapist, all seem to agree that Dodo is simply a 'phase'.

Combined with Maya's sudden, wearying, croup, Dodo's increasingly alarming bad behavior and 'control' over Maya and the need to get away from a rapidly unraveling life, Hope, and her husband Uzi, plan a last minute get-a-way to Belize, in Central America.

The Possibility of Everything takes the reader on a week long journey with the Edelmans. Written poetically, and often times in such dazzling detail that one can not help but feel they are there, or, at the very least, WISH they were, The Possibility of Everything wraps itself around the reader's heartstrings and holds fast, tugging, pulling, pushing, cracking it open, until every possible human emotion that can be felt is experienced through Hope's musical and melodious manner of writing.

How far should a parent go to heal their child? Who decides between conventional and unconventional? What does faith have to do with it? What if everything you believed to be true, and everything you believed to be false suddenly meets in the middle and blurs together until neither or either will do if it means your child will be saved?

A tale sure to capture the hearts of all that read it, The Possibility of Everything is in my top five of favorite books. Ever.

I read all 325 pages in one day, unable to put it down. Hope is so much more than a writer. Her writing style is passionate, rhythmic, illustrative and eloquent. Her insight, of herself, her life, and others, forces the reader to stop, take measure, and breathe. By the end of the book I felt as if I knew Hope, Uzi and Maya, and could not help wishing for a chance to cross their paths upon some pyramid for real, one day.

Delicious, absorbing, engaging and exotic, The Possibility of Everything delivers (and more) on it's title. With faith, love and and an open heart, everything, is indeed, possible. Hope challenges all who read her book to expand, transform and renew their faiths. This was an absolute pleasure, a complete jewel of a book. A must own for anyone obsessed with words and the magic they possess, create and bestow upon readers and writers alike.

Claudia lives on Cape Cod with her husband and two children. She entertains her passion for reading in between providing services to help empower and improve the lives of low-income residents.

"I read all 325 pages in one day, unable to put it down." The very best sign of a great book when the reviewer is totally hooked!

Judging by the number of people vying for this book, the odds are sort of against me that I shall win it, so I'll just add it to my library list instead!
